New opportunity: Hand Weaving Assistant

We are looking for a Hand Weaving Assistant. Keeping the ancient craft of handweaving alive, we are expanding our close-knit team in our Scottish atelier.

Handweaving Assistant

Location: Near South Queensferry, Edinburgh

Salary: Dependent on age and experience

Contract: Fixed Term 12 Months (possibility of extension for the right candidate)

Hours: Full-time 36.25hr/per week between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Start Date: Early 2024

The Role

The successful candidate will be a key member of the team with the vital role of working on the handweaving of the SIGNATURE and HERITAGE collections, seeing them through the full production process.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Handweave and finish the SIGNATURE and HERITAGE products.
  • Produce warps and set up looms.
  • Support the Head of Handweaving in other aspects of their role.
  • Assist with private client shopping appointments and demonstrating weaving both in the Atelier and at external events.
  • Assist with logistics and packaging of orders.
  • Perform Atelier maintenance.
  • Work as part of the team supporting in the growth and development of the business.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be confident at weaving and setting up a loom.
  • Knowledge of George Wood and electronic dobby looms would be beneficial.
  • Have excellent attention to detail and quality.
  • Be a good communicator and an enthusiastic team member who can also work autonomously within their own area of responsibility.
  • Be well organised and able to manage their own workload.
  • Demonstrate a flexible attitude towards supporting in other areas of the business.

This position is full-time and there is the requirement to be available on some weekends to support with private shopping appointments & events that may occur from time to time.

The role is initially for 12 months with the potential for extension.

The business is in a rural location so the successful candidate must be able to drive and have access to a car.
