Introducing Two New Designs in the British Alpaca Collection

Celebrating the Beauty of Scotland’s Barley Fields

Rooted in the rich agricultural landscape of Aberdeenshire, Araminta’s newest designs in the British alpaca collection pay tribute to the fields that frame her home and daily life. Inspired by Scotland, Designed in Scotland, Made in Scotland.

Welcoming Rippling Barley & Harvest Grain

Each year, during the early and late harvest season, the surrounding barley fields transform with the shifting light, colour, and motion of the crops – scenes that have inspired two new designs: Rippling Barley and Harvest Grain.

Both pieces reflect the rhythm of nature and the artistry of the land, reimagined through Araminta’s timeless design language.

Rippling Barley

Rippling Barley evokes a moment in motion –
when the barley stands tall in the fields and the
wind stirs the crop into rippling waves. Inspired
by this natural, undulating pattern, Araminta has
translated the movement into a flowing design
that echoes the way the fields come alive.

There is a quiet poetry to the way barley fields respond to the wind – thousands of stems moving as one, forming waves that ripple across the land.

Harvest Grain

Harvest Grain captures the structure of the barley
as it grows – the elegant head of the plant with
its central stem and fine, tapering awns. This
intricate natural form has been transformed
into a repeating motif that honours the delicate
symmetry and quiet strength of the growing crop.

The result is a piece that celebrates the symmetry, resilience, and refined grace found in the growing crop.

With Rippling Barley and Harvest Grain, Araminta showcases her ability to transform natural patterns into sophisticated woven designs, showcasing that Scotland’s textile industry is not only about tartan and tweed, but also about innovation, artistry, and a deep connection to place.

Woven in one of Scotland’s Oldest Surviving Mills

These two new designs are produced in very limited runs at one of Scotland’s oldest surviving mills, Drove Weavers in Langholm, in the Scottish Borders.

As manufacturing moved overseas in the late 20th century, family-run mills across the Borders were forced to close, one after another. Today, Drove Weavers is the last mill still operating in Langholm, owned and run by the local community itself.

With a mission to preserve Scotland’s weaving heritage, Drove Weavers continues to produce cloth to the highest standard, keeping alive the skills, craftsmanship, and pride that have defined the Borders for generations. They are also specialists in executing Araminta’s highly technical weave structures, working with precision and care to bring her vision to life. Their expertise in handling our unique British alpaca and rose fibre blend ensures each piece carries both the softness and durability that define our collections.

Working with Drove Weavers ensures that these designs are not only rooted in the land that inspired them, but also in the traditions, knowledge, and people who keep Scotland’s weaving legacy alive.

Rooted in Place, Crafted with Care

These new additions to the British alpaca collection are more than designs, they are woven stories of the land. Drawing inspiration from Aberdeenshire’s barley fields, Araminta has created pieces that invite a sense of connection: to place, to season, and to the rhythms of nature. Crafted with the same dedication to sustainability, animal welfare, and local artistry that defines the collection, Rippling Barley and Harvest Grain embody the union of natural beauty and timeless design.

These exclusive designs will be available in scarves and shawls, woven in natural undyed alpaca shades of caramel, grey, and white.
