Custom Design Tartan Project: The Fingal

Opening in 2019, Fingal is a stunning hotel in Edinburgh with a very special twist, it’s a ship! A former Northern Lighthouse Board tender, Fingal sailed all around Scotland, transporting lighthouse keepers and supplies to the lighthouses, sailing through some of Scotland’s most treacherous waters.

Following a £5 million transformation by the team behind The Royal Yacht Britannia, Fingal is a nautical delight, with 22 luxurious cabins, a double-height Ballroom and beautiful restaurant, The Lighthouse Restaurant & Bar. 

Prior to opening Araminta was chosen to design a custom tartan for the ship, creating cosy throws and cushions for each cabin.

Using the Scottish landscape and ship itself as inspiration, the colour palette reflects the purple heather of the Scottish mountain landscape with the sea foam green inspired by the colour in Fingal’s Engine Room, the beating heart of any ship. A bright light in the centre casts the warm glow of the lighthouse beam, guarding ships away from rocky shores.

Araminta’s design tells the story of Fingal through cloth, creating a lasting memory to be cherished and enjoyed.  With a restaurant open to both residents and non-residents of their spectacular cabins, Fingal provides a backdrop to create delicious memories of your own.

We are pleased to be supporting Fingal once again and are delighted to offer an afternoon tea for two aboard the floating hotel.
