Friends of Araminta Campbell: Christina and Rosie Morton

05 Mar 2026

We recently invited mother and daughter Christina and Rosie Morton to visit the Atelier for a private shopping appointment. You might recognise journalist and writer Rosie from our latest Alpaca-Rose wearables campaign, or indeed from the wonderful BBC Scotland series, Landward. Her mother, Christina, is a Highlander at heart, born near Inverness, and moving to Aberdeenshire for her nursing career and settling there to raise her family. As fellow lovers of Scotland’s endless natural beauty, we certainly share a lot in common with the Morton mother-and-daughter duo.

Hailing from Aberdeenshire, where Araminta grew up, the Mortons met Araminta during a local showcase of her weaving over a decade ago. They have both since become long-term friends of the brand, acquiring their own handwoven pieces over the years. During their visit, we talked to them about what drew them to the Araminta Campbell brand in the first place, and what owning a handwoven piece means to them.

“We are lucky enough to call the north-east of Scotland our home, so we first encountered Araminta Campbell’s beautiful textiles in their place of origin.”

Welcome to the Atelier

Journeying down from the far north-east of Scotland, Christina and Rosie arrived at the Atelier one dreary afternoon in November. Yet, no matter the weather – and Scottish weather is reliably and assuredly mixed – the Atelier offers a warm welcome, a catch-up over coffee, and the chance to see not just our full handwoven collection, but to experience the weaving in action – and even to have a go.

Speaking of their experience in the Atelier, Rosie and Christina appreciated getting to understand the depth of story within each design, and the opportunity to connect with the actual makers of the pieces. “The stories that are woven into each beautiful scarf, throw and shawl give each piece its own special meaning. It is wonderful to know the provenance of the textiles themselves, and to have met some of the enormously talented weavers in person makes them feel all the more personal too.”

And, as the Handwoven collections are exclusively available at the Atelier, a visit gives the rare opportunity to try on and feel the pieces! As we use the top 5-10% of British Alpaca fibre, and finish each piece by hand to create a luxurious, super-soft hand-feel, this is a vital sensory experience. Rosie notes: “You have to actually touch them and see them to fully appreciate just how exquisite these pieces are.”

Heirloom Pieces

“When I wear my Araminta Campbell scarf, it is always admired.” – Christina

Christina and Rosie both value sustainably-made objects that are made to last, and both make a conscious effort to make considered purchases. They are both aligned with the values we hold dear at the Atelier.

“Aside from their obvious beauty, Araminta Campbell’s alpaca pieces can be traced back to individual animals in the UK, making them feel like an environmentally sound choice. As far as possible, we want to make slow fashion choices that prioritise quality, sustainability and craftsmanship over fast fashion trends that are here today, gone tomorrow. What’s more, these items will last a lifetime if well looked after!”

Rosie expresses how much use she gets out of her piece, and how much she enjoys its versatility – luxurious enough for evening, yet just as easy to wear as an everyday accessory: “The natural, warm tones can be worn with any outfit, from evening dress to jeans (good jeans of course!) and – crucially in Scotland – they keep us cosy.”

“An Araminta Campbell handwoven piece, to me, seems like the ultimate investment luxury item that I know I will pass on to my daughter,” says Christina.

“We feel very privileged to be wearing such beautiful pieces of handwoven British Alpaca, crafted by highly skilled artisans. The handwoven scarves and throws are luxurious, timeless classics.”

Luxurious, Timeless, Exquisite: Treasured

For both Rosie and Christina, their purchases go beyond buying themselves a treat in the moment. Instead, they have their family and the future in mind. “An Araminta Campbell handwoven piece, to me, seems like the ultimate investment luxury item that I know I will pass on to my daughter,” says Christina.

Rosie feels similarly: “Whether it’s wrapping a throw around you at the end of a long day, or battling Scotland’s inclement weather with the comfort of an Araminta scarf round your neck, our items are shared and loved by all the family.” What a very generous member of the family to have around!

“My pieces will be passed down the family where I know they will be loved and enjoyed as much as I do.” – Christina

Christina and Rosie each own a handwoven Signature scarf and share a throw that was woven by Araminta herself – a very limited edition, special piece indeed! You can follow Rosie and her adventures through Scotland, and don’t miss her new venture, The Hood Podcast, which is built for women who want substance and style – probably very appropriate for you, if you’re reading this.

We feel truly honoured each time someone chooses one of our handwoven pieces to become part of their life. Each creation carries the care and craftsmanship of our artisans, but it only finds its true meaning once it’s woven into someone’s story, whether that’s a connection to nature, a reminder of a special place, or simply a moment of calm and beauty in everyday life.
